Fans Get Their First Look At Idris Elba In The Upcoming Luther Movie

Fans have been given a sneak preview of the upcoming Luther movie before the premiere next year.

Since the show’s debut in 2010, Idris Elba has played the role of DCI John Luther in the BBC criminal thriller series. In 2021, Netflix made its initial announcement for the movie with the same name.

In the first of two recently published first-look pictures, DCI Luther can be seen grimacing as he strolls across a hilly, snow-covered environment.

In the second, the irascible detective can be seen looking around a tunnel beneath the ground.

Set to release on Netflix in March 2023, the film will reprise Elba, 50, as the character of the same name, and will join Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis in the cast. As Martin Schenk, the detective, Dermot Crowley will also be making a comeback.

Elba revealed in an interview with Empire magazine on the eagerly awaited Luther movie, he said: “We break out of the gritty streets of London, we take it outside of that a little bit. That’s great. It feels like now we’re entering a different life of the Luther experience.”

The movie, which was written by Neil Cross and is being directed by Jamie Payne, also features Idris Elba on the production team.

Elba appeared in the suspenseful Beast earlier this year, which depicts a man and his two teenage daughters being chased by a lion while on vacation in the savannah.

Elba shot the blockbuster in South Africa, where he had previously filmed the 2013 movie Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.
