The FBI has confirmed that Donald Trump was shot by a bullet during the July 13 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The statement came two days after the director of the organisation expressed doubt regarding the nature of the bullet that struck the former president.
“What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject’s rifle,” read a statement released by the FBI.
The FBI acknowledged that one of the shots fired by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks did in fact strike President Trump, 78, following his outburst over FBI Director Christopher Wray’s appearance before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
“With respect to former President Trump, there’s some question about whether or not it’s a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear,” Wray told lawmakers.
In a Truth Social post, Trump asserted that Wray was “wrong” and that the FBI “never even checked” to determine what had struck his ear. He also contended that the FBI director’s assertion that the bullet might not have been the cause of the incident is the reason why “the once storied FBI has lost the confidence of America.”
After the shootings at the event, hours after the attempted assassination, Trump claimed to have “felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”
The former White House physician for President Trump, Ronny Jackson, a Texas legislator, treated the former president following the incident and stated on Friday that there is “absolutely no evidence” that the bullet that struck Trump’s ear was anything other than a bullet.
Following the FBI’s announcement, Trump declared that he “fully accepted” Wray’s “apology.”
“I assume that’s the best apology that we’ll get from Director Wray, but it is fully accepted!” he wrote on Truth Social.
In 2017, Trump appointed Wray, then fifty-seven, to be the head of the FBI.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
