FBI Discovers Underground Drug Tunnel Linking California To Mexico (Photos)

The FBI reportedly uncovered a hidden drug-smuggling tunnel that connects California and Mexico.

The 1,774-foot tunnel, which runs from Tijuana, Mexico, to a warehouse in San Diego’s Otay Mesa neighbourhood, has a rail track, ventilation, and electricity.

Federal authorities recovered nearly two tonnes of cocaine with a resale price of nearly $100 million following a surveillance operation.

The officials were spying on a house known to be utilized by a criminal organization and where 61 pounds of cocaine had previously been stashed before they discovered the tunnel.

Two suspected gang members, Luz de Luna Olmos and Vanessa Ramirez were followed by the officials from their residence to a tool store and then back to the warehouse.

They, along with Juan Cruz, Adrian Enriquez, and Mario Jaramillo, were arrested and were scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

US Attorney Randy Grossman said: “There is no more light at the end of this narco-tunnel.

“We will take down every subterranean smuggling route we find to keep illicit drugs from reaching our streets and destroying our families and communities.”

Since 1993, at least 90 drug tunnels have been discovered in California’s southern district, with the most recent one raided in March 2020.
