A $1 billion social protection program was introduced by the Federal Government on Wednesday with the goal of assisting vulnerable Nigerians in transitioning from short-term palliative care to long-term routes of economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.
At the introduction of the Household Prosperity and Empowerment Social Protection Project and four other programs aimed at bolstering the nation’s humanitarian response and poverty reduction framework, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu made this statement.
In a statement titled “FG Launches $1bn HOPE Social Protection Programme,” released on Wednesday, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, revealed this.
She said;
“Under the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, our nation is implementing far-reaching reforms to strengthen the economy, lay a solid foundation for sustainable growth, and shared prosperity.
“As these reforms continue to take effect, we must recognise that, given the size of our population and available resources, many families still face challenges and require our collective support.”
“The first initiative, the Household Prosperity and Empowerment Social Protection Project, is an important step toward strengthening how to identify and respond to vulnerable households facing various challenges by listening to their specific needs before taking action.
“It is designed to provide immediate stabilisation assistance while placing the households on a pathway to recovery, empowerment and self-reliance.”
This initiative is a positive step forward for Nigeria, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving the lives of its citizens. Such efforts have the potential to foster sustainable development and create a brighter future for the nation.
