FIFA Orders NFF To Pay $378,000 To Former Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been ordered by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) to pay $378,000 in compensation to former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr.

A few weeks before the start of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which was hosted by Cameroon, Rohr was fired by the NFF in December.

The NFF highlighted the Super Eagles’ terrible performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as justification for its decision.

The NFF and Rohr initially agreed that the sports body would pay the German until his contract’s expiration in December 2022.

The 68-year-old later complained to FIFA about the NFF’s wrongful dismissal of himself, which he viewed as a breach of contract.

In a ruling, FIFA stated that the NFF would face penalties if Rohr’s payment was not made in full within 45 days.

The body said, “If full payment (including all applicable interest) is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the respondent [the NFF] shall be imposed a restriction on receiving a percentage of development funding, up until the due amounts are paid.”

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
