Five Suspected Thieves Arrested With 996 Stolen Phones

Five suspected thieves have been detained by the Kano State Police Command, and 996 stolen mobile phones, nine stolen laptops, ATM cards, and other accessories have been found.

In a statement released on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, claimed one of the suspects, Ibrahim Adamu, broke into eleven stores at Dansulaika GSM Market and took mobile phones, desktop, and laptop computers, as well as some sales money.

An intelligence-driven operation by a squad of detectives resulted in the suspect’s arrest at Sallari Quarters in the state’s Tarauni Local Government Area.

Adamu admitted to doing the crime by himself and helped the police find the stolen goods, which included 106 mobile phones.

“The Police Command was following up on a Public outcry received from the coordinators of Dansulaika GSM Market, Farm Center, Kano that on 24/08/2023 at about 2000hrs unknown person (s) broke into eleven (11) shops through the roof ceilings and stole away the following items: Some Mobile Phones, Desktop and Laptop Computers, some sales Money, ATM cards and other accessories, while the team of detectives conducted discreet investigation with a view to arrest the perpetrator (s) and recover the properties stolen,” the statement read.

“A sustained intelligence-led operation was launched that led to the arrest of one Ibrahim Adamu, ’m’, of Sallari Quarters, Tarauni LGA, Kano. The suspect confessed to the Police that he singlehandedly committed the offence and led them to the recovery of the One Hundred and Six (106) Mobile Phones, Nine (9) Laptops Computers, Sales Money Sum of One Hundred and Fifteen Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty Naira (N115,940:00), Nine (9) ATM cards, and other accessories. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the ongoing,” the PPRO added.

A 19-year-old salesman named Mujittafa Sale was also detained by police after he and another man, Ahmed Abbati, planned to steal numerous different brands of cell phones and other accessories from his employer’s store.

Three suspects who assisted the aforementioned Mujjitafa Sale in concealing the stolen mobile phones were arrested after he confessed to the crime during the course of the inquiry.

Following an in-depth investigation, the four suspects’ possessions included eight hundred and ninety (890) mobile phones in total.

“On 18/09/2023 at about 1400hrs, a report was received from a Mobile Phone Marketer of Beirut Road GSM Market, Kano that the shop owner discovered that several Brands of Mobile Phones and other accessories were stolen from his shop and strongly suspected his sales Boy one Mujittafa Sale, ‘m’ 19 years old of Dukawuya Quarters, Kano,” the spokesperson said.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, PSC detailed a team of detectives and directed them to conduct a thorough investigation

“During the investigation, the said Mujjitafa Sale was arrested and instantly confessed to having conspired with one Ahmed Abbati, 23 years old of Dukawuya Quarters, Kano and jointly committed the offence

“Further investigation led to the arrest of the following Persons who helped him to hide the Stolen Mobile Phones including other accessories: They are: (1) Musa Muhammad Shafi’u, ‘m’ 25 years old, (2) Nusairu Nasiru, ‘m’ 22 years old, and (3) Usman Muhammad, ‘m’ 25 years old, all of Dukawuya Quarters, Kano. Consequent to an in-depth investigation, a total of Eight Hundred and Ninety (890) Mobile Phones were recovered from them. The suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation

“The Commissioner of Police while appreciating the good people of the State for their understanding, support and cooperation, also advice shop owners to be mindful of whom they entrust with their business and further reiterates that the Police Command will continue to be committed to safeguarding life and property of all the inhabitants in the State
