Flood Devastation in Adamawa: Women and Children Bear the Brunt

The recent flooding in Adamawa State has left a trail of destruction, with women and children dominating the camps set up for victims. The disaster, which affected 12 communities in Madagali Local Government Area, has claimed six lives, injured 10 others, and displaced over 10,000 people.

The Humanitarian Crisis

The flood has resulted in :

  • 10,246 people displaced in Madagali, with eight IDP camps set up to provide shelter.
  • 1,711 households affected, with many homes, shops, and boreholes destroyed.
  • Women and children are the worst hit, exposed to undignified living conditions and health risks

Relief Efforts

Some organizations have extended relief materials to the victims, including :

  • ECOWAS and Red Cross, who provided cash and food items to affected residents

Health Concerns

The flood has also led to:

  • Cholera outbreaks declared in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states
  • Heightened malnutrition crisis in the affected regions

The situation remains dire, with many victims still in need of humanitarian assistance, including shelter, food, and medical care.
