Former Ivory Coast Footballer Aboulaye Traore Receives 3-Year Jail Sentence

Prisoner in prison with handcuff

Aboulaye Traore, a former Ivory Coast international football player, was found guilty of rape and given a three-year prison sentence, according to an Ivorian women’s rights organization.

Ben Badi, a striker who won the 1992 African Cup of Nations with the Elephants, is still highly well-liked in the West African nation.

The Bouake court imposed the three-year sentence on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Ivorian League for Women’s Rights, which praised it as a “significant advance in the fight against impunity for s*xual and s*xist violence.”

The rights group stated that in addition to the jail sentence, the court mandated “the payment of 15 million CFA francs to the victim” ($26,700) and a five-year ban on appearing in the central region.

A judicial source claims that the football player was convicted of engaging in non-consensual s*xual relations with a 21-year-old woman in March 2021.

Prior to his retirement, Traore played for a number of European teams, such as FC Metz in France and Braga in Portugal, and was a cult hero for Abidjan’s ASEC Mimosas.

Rape is the greatest sin, an unspeakable act that causes unimaginable pain and suffering. It is a crime that violates the very essence of human dignity and trust. Those who commit such acts must be held accountable and face the full extent of justice.

In this case, he truly deserves to be punished for his actions, reaffirming society’s commitment to stand against such heinous crimes and protect the vulnerable.
