Former Ondo governor Mimiko joins APC one month after dumping PDP

Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mimiko on Thursday at the secretariat of the APC in Ondo West Local Government to officially join the ruling party.

Mimiko was received into the party by the APC chairman in the state, Mr. Babatunde Kolawole and the speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt (Hon), Olamide Oladiji, amid rousy welcome.

Mimiko, a two-term former governor, had in April, formerly resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending long-running speculation over his political affiliation.

The former governor, who governed the state between 2009 and 2017, had previously been a prominent figure in the Labour Party (LP) before moving to the PDP, where he also played influential roles at both state and national levels.

His planned return to active partisan and political alignment, according to sources, comes after a period of relative political quiet, during which the former governor maintained influence through loyalists and longstanding structures across the state.

Several party insiders have described Mimiko’s decision as strategic, noting that his political experience, grassroots appeal and established network would strengthen the APC’s base, particularly in Ondo Central Senatorial District, where he remains a dominant figure.
