Former Rivers Governorship Candidate Arrested

Sobomabo Jackrich, a former National Rescue Movement candidate for Rivers State’s 2023 general election, has been detained.

According to Channels TV, Jackrich was captured by men disguised in military uniforms at his home in Usokun, Degema Local Government Area, on Monday morning, April 8, 2024.

Jackrich, also known as ‘Egberipapa’, was a former militant leader who supported amnesty under the administration of late President Umar Yar’Adua.

According to people familiar with the incident, the arrest, which purportedly took place in a commando fashion about 2:00 a.m. on Monday, ended in the deaths of two of his aides.

Soibibo Sokari, Jackrich’s communications aide, verified the incident to Punch, saying it was an abduction.

“Yes it is true he was abducted this morning. Two persons were killed, and their bodies were carted away along with him. We are still following up on the incident to get more details. We don’t know exactly who is behind it. But as the details unfold, we will let the public know about it,” he said.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesman for the state police command, acknowledged the occurrence and stated that Jackrich was with security officers rather than being kidnapped.

“It is not a kidnapping. He is with some security personnel. That is all I can say for now,” she added.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
