
Nigeria has lost a distinguished statesman and legal luminary, Senator Isah Obaro Abonyi, who represented Kogi Central Senatorial District from 1979 to 1983. He died on Tuesday at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service.
A trailblazer from the Ebira nation, Senator Abonyi was a celebrated politician, lawyer, and community leader. He was the first Attorney General of the former Kwara State and a key supporter of the Ebira Peoples Association in Kwara State. His contributions to Nigeria’s development, particularly in the education and legal sectors, are immeasurable.
Tributes have poured in from across the nation, with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State describing Senator Abonyi as a “distinguished statesman and patriot” whose efforts strengthened unity and development in Kogi State. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, also mourned his passing, highlighting his notable contributions to the National Assembly.
