French Rugby Players Charged With S*xual Assault In Argentina

Two French rugby players are accused of aggravated s*xual assault by Argentine prosecutors after a lady was allegedly raped in their hotel room and they refused to let her go.

Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou, the two players involved in the alleged attack that happened on Sunday after the French team’s test match against the Argentine Pumas, were ordered to stay in custody until their trial by the prosecutor’s office in the western city of Mendoza.

Following their apprehension in Buenos Aires, Jegou, 21, and Auradou, 20, traveled around 620 miles to Mendoza, where they made their initial court appearance. At the hearing on Friday, they declined to testify.

According to a prior statement from the French Rugby Federation, the players acknowledged having intercourse with the woman but insisted it was consensual and denied using any violent methods.

The woman’s attorney, Natacha Romano, gave an account of the alleged assault that has sparked outrage in France and stirred controversy in Argentina, where recent scandals involving professional athletes have raised concerns about alleged misogyny and s*xual violence within the sports community.

The woman was discovered to have an acute bleeding ulcer in addition to other injuries that were presumably caused by her assault, Ms. Romano told The Associated Press. She is still being treated at the hospital “in a state of shock and extreme stress.”

She added that the woman had a significant depressive mood problem brought on by the incident, for which she was under close medical treatment. As per the prosecution, the court will make a decision shortly about the defendants’ plea for house arrest.

According to Ms. Romano, her client stated that she went back to Auradou’s hotel room for another drink after meeting him at a nightclub where the squad was celebrating their victory. She claimed that before Jegou joined in on the attacks an hour later, Auradou turned violent, forcing her to endure non-consensual s*x acts and preventing her from fleeing.

According to Ms. Romano, the woman lodged a police complaint and was subjected to physical testing after leaving the hotel room.

In Argentina, the maximum penalty for charges of serious s*xual assault is 20 years in jail. Eight years is the minimum required. The defendants have been transferred to a different jail, according to the authorities.

Gentle Reminder: Be careful how you use your authority and influence, be wise, and treat others with respect.
