Friends and colleagues of Esther ‘Sunshine’ Thomas are coming together during this difficult time to seek financial support for her final resting arrangements.
Tragically, Sunshine passed away last week after a challenging medical journey that began in late December 2025. What started as severe stomach pain soon led to a diagnosis of a fibroid. Her friend, Chidera Madu, shared that Sunshine was first taken to Orchid General Hospital. However, due to a nationwide doctors’ strike, she was only able to receive pain relief initially, which prompted a necessary transfer to another facility on January 2 for the care she desperately needed.
In a heartfelt video, fellow content creator Dupe Noma detailed Sunshine’s struggles, revealing that she was diagnosed with a triad of conditions: an ulcer, a fibroid, and a kidney infection. Noma explained that after successful treatment for the ulcer and infection, Sunshine was finally cleared for surgery to remove the fibroid.
“The ulcer was being treated, the kidney infection was also being treated, and eventually, she was discharged. The doctor advised her to prepare for the fibroid surgery,” Noma recounted. “The surgery went well, but afterwards, concerns arose about her breathing. They performed CPR and provided her with oxygen, but sadly, she did not survive.”
Noma, along with friends Madu and Lucy Antem, compassionately illuminated the reality of Sunshine’s circumstances—she was an orphan with only one brother, who is currently unable to shoulder the financial burden of her burial. “This is a plea for anyone who knew and loved Esther Thomas; she has no family support other than her brother, and he is presently incapacitated,” Noma shared earnestly.
“Some friends have visited her brother, and he has confirmed that they lack any family members available to help, which has led us to seek assistance from the community to ensure she receives a proper burial.”
In this time of sorrow, the friends of Sunshine are hopeful that the kindness of others will help honor her memory and provide her with the peaceful farewell she deserves.
