Full List: Countries Who Have Qualified For 2026 FIFA World Cup

For the first time ever, the FIFA World Cup will feature 48 teams in its 2026 edition, expanding from the 32-team format used since 1998.

This landmark tournament will bring together more international teams than ever before, with the United States, Canada, and Mexico set to co-host what promises to be a thrilling global spectacle.

Expanded Slot Allocation

FIFA’s new structure guarantees:

  • UEFA: 16 slots
  • CAF (Africa): 9 slots
  • AFC (Asia): 8 slots
  • CONMEBOL (South America): 6 slots
  • CONCACAF (North & Central America): 6 slots
  • OFC (Oceania): 1 slot (for the first time in history)

The remaining two slots will be determined via intercontinental playoffs.

With qualification matches well underway, several nations have already secured their places.

Here’s a look at the teams that have booked their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Countries who have booked a place in 2026 FIFA World Cup

Canada

As one of the co-hosts, Canada automatically qualifies for its third-ever World Cup appearance. With a young and talented squad, the Canadian team will aim to make history by advancing beyond the group stage for the first time.

Mexico

Mexico will host the World Cup for a record third time, having previously staged the tournament in 1970 and 1986. This will mark El Tri’s 18th World Cup appearance, but they are still chasing a first-ever semifinal berth.

United States

The USMNT will make its 12th World Cup appearance and will aim to build on its Round of 16 finish in Qatar 2022. With a talented core of players competing in Europe’s top leagues, the American squad hopes to contend deep into the tournament.

Japan

Japan extends its impressive streak by qualifying for a seventh consecutive World Cup. After consistently reaching the Round of 16 in recent editions, the Samurai Blue will aim to break new ground and reach the quarterfinals.

New Zealand

New Zealand returns to the World Cup for the first time since 2010. The All Whites will be eager to make an impact after securing Oceania’s automatic qualification spot.

Iran

Iran continues its World Cup consistency by qualifying for its fourth consecutive tournament. With an experienced squad, Team Melli will be looking to progress past the group stage for the first time in history.

Argentina

The reigning World Cup champions, Argentina, will defend their title in North America. La Albiceleste is chasing a historic feat—becoming the first team since Brazil in 1962 to win back-to-back World Cups.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
