Germany’s Yemisi Ogunleye Wins Olympic Gold In Women’s Shot Put

Yemisi Ogunleye of Germany won the gold medal in the women’s shot put competition on Friday at the Olympics in Paris, tossing the winning throw of 20.00 meters on her final try.

With her sixth throw, Ogunleye’s attempt beat out Maddison-Lee Wesche of New Zealand, who recorded a lifetime best of 19.86, while Song Jiayuan came third with 19.32.

Ogunleye’s greatest finish came in 2024 when she took home a silver medal at the global indoor championships. In June, she also won a bronze at the European Championships in Rome.

The USA was disappointed as Jaida Ross placed fourth and her teammate Raven Saunders was eliminated following the first three throws.

Gong Lijiao, a Chinese gold medallist who also took home a silver.

A very big congratulations to you. More Wins!
