Ghana has received the honor of hosting the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, as awarded by the Confederation of African Football..
In a statement posted on its X account on Monday, the Ghana Football Association said that CAF informed its General Secretary, Prosper Addo, of the decision.
According to the GFA, the decision reflects “CAF’s strong confidence in the Ghana Football Association’s ability to organise and deliver a tournament that meets the highest standards of youth football on the continent.”
The competition was last held in Ghana in 1999, when the Black Satellites emerged victorious at home. Ghana’s 70th anniversary of independence will be celebrated in 2027.
The statement quoted CAF as saying it will work closely with the GFA and a soon-to-be-established Local Organising Committee to ensure the successful planning and execution of the tournament.
“This collaboration is expected to focus on infrastructure readiness, logistics, security, and overall fan experience, all aimed at delivering a world-class event worthy of Africa’s growing football stature.
“Beyond the excitement of hosting, the tournament represents a broader endorsement of Ghana’s reputation as one of Africa’s premier football hubs,” it added.
The CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations has historically produced a number of football stars who have gone on to succeed at elite clubs and on the international scene, and it provides an important platform for young players to develop.
Ghana is anticipated to start preparations for what officials call a major continental football event now that the hosting rights for 2027 have been secured.
