An app called “Marrify” was introduced by the Ghanaian Ministry of Gender to confirm a prospective couple’s marital status prior to marriage.
Ghana’s minister of gender, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, was present at the official launch ceremony.
The app was released in association with MarryRight, a firm that focuses on marriage and family law.
Speaking at the event, Lartey stated that the application was a crucial step in preventing gender-based violence and ensuring that relationships are based on respect.
According to her, the introduction of the app gives couples a chance to approach marriage with more responsibility and awareness.
“It is a reminder of the need to uphold the highest standard of integrity and accountability,” she said.
“You would not have to take a person’s word for it, even in the most trusted relationship. You can verify with this app. And then again, when making a decision on the venue, who has to officiate the marriage, where it is officiated, the officiant, and the status of the one you are getting married to.
“These are the critical issues we need to ponder over, verify and be sure of before taking the needed step. As a ministry, we’ve used our platform to promote the app and engage with our stakeholders and potential beneficiaries. To ensure that Ghanaians live in awareness. So that you do not invest for so many years, resources and find out that all the investment has gone in vain.”
On his part, Dennis Adei Dwomoh, founder of Marrify App and the Marriage Governance Conference, decried the state of marriage data management in the country.
The legal practitioner argued that “80% of Ghanaians who are married have not registered their marriage.”
This initiative is a commendable step forward, promoting transparency and integrity in relationships. All married men who derive pleasure from deceiving singles should take note—your secrets are now exposed, and honesty is the new way forward.
