GWR: OAU Student Lands In Hospital After 58-hour Wash-a-thon

A student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Subair Enitan, aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the longest handwashing by an individual, has been hospitalized.

Enitan, who embarked on a handwashing marathon on Friday, ended the session in the early hours of Monday, November 27, 2023.

A Twitter user, Dr Bush, shared a video of the young lady laying on the hospital bed with wringled white palms.

Enitan, who commenced the marathon on 24th of November, ended it after 58 hours, after initially planning to just wash for 50 hours.

She had notified the Guinness World Records in June 2023 of her intentions and was given November 24 to embark on the marathon.

The 200-level student of Linguistics and African Languages had the support of the university’s student union.

Before she officially started washing clothes, she expressed optimism that she will finish strong as title holder of the longest hand-washing hours.

The student said; “My background, the lessons life taught me have been motivating me to embark on this wash-a-thon. My experience is unexplainable but it taught me to be selfless. I am confident that I will reach the set goal of 50 hours of hand wash and by God’s grace I will emerge victorious.

“Despite the massive support from my colleagues here, I pray for the grace of God to be able to complete the task. My parents are very supportive and I urge Nigerians to rally round me while I work towards completing the task”.

The school management, represented by the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor John Odedire, said the institution is ready to give all it takes to ensure she clinches the record.

Warmest wishes for a speedy recovery! Sending good, healthy vibes your way.
