Hajj Pilgrimage To Begin On June 4

At a press conference on Monday, Saudi Arabia’s hajj minister, Tawfiq al-Rabiah, stated that just over a million pilgrims from around the world had already arrived in the country.

According to the official figures, 1.8 million Muslims performed the hajj last year. The supreme court in a statement carried by the official Saudi press agency announced on Tuesday that the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca would begin on June 4 after astronomical observatories spotted the crescent moon, marking the start of the lunar month.

One of the five pillars of Islam is the hajj, which every Muslim who is capable of doing so must do at least once.

The Islamic lunar calendar determines the pilgrimage’s date, which changes annually. It has happened in the sweltering summer months in Saudi Arabia in recent years.

According to the authorities, almost 1,300 individuals perished under the June sun in 2024, when temperatures reached a height of 51.8 Celsius. The highlight of the four-day event is the mass outdoor prayers atop Mount Arafat, the site where the Prophet Mohammed is said to have delivered his last speech, on the second day.
