The Katsina State Police Command on Tuesday presented cheques totalling N28.01 million to the families of 25 police officers who died in the line of duty.
The emotional presentation ceremony was held at the Conference Hall of the Command Headquarters in Katsina.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage*, who presented the cheques, said the package was a welfare initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for families of officers who paid the supreme price serving the nation.
“Their Sacrifices Will Not Be Forgotten”
Fage expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the peaceful repose of the fallen officers.
He described them as “gallant men who served the nation with dedication,” stressing that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
“I appreciate the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his commitment to officers’ welfare and for ensuring that the sacrifices of our fallen heroes are not forgotten,” Fage said.
The CP urged the beneficiaries to use the financial assistance judiciously to meet their immediate needs and secure their future.
According to the Command, the cheques totalled N28,012,584.70 shared among the 25 beneficiary families.
Beneficiaries React
Speaking on behalf of the families, Alkasim Salisu expressed deep gratitude to the IGP and the Katsina Commissioner of Police.
“We are grateful to the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police for this kind gesture. We assure you that the money will be used judiciously,” he said.
The Command said the gesture reaffirms its commitment to the welfare of serving personnel and the families of fallen officers.
The presentation in Katsina comes after similar welfare payouts in Kwara where N10.6m was recently given to families of 19 fallen officers, as the Nigeria Police Force steps up efforts to care for families of personnel lost to banditry, terrorism and other security operations, especially in the North-West.
