Horrific: Over 100 Killed & Many Wounded In Mosque Blast In Afghanistan

Over 100 people were killed and more than 200 others were wounded on Friday as a result of an explosion that took place in a Shiite mosque in Khan Aban Bandar area of Kunduz City.

The suicide bomber was a child boot polisher who carried the explosives in his backpack.

The graphic video footage showed bodies surrounded by debris inside the mosque that is used by people from the minority Shi’ite Muslim community. The victims of this attack are Shiites, a minority in Afghanistan.

“Initial information indicates more than 100 people killed and injured in a suicide blast inside the mosque,” the United Nations’ mission to Afghanistan said in a tweet.

The blast followed several attacks, including one at a mosque in Kabul, in recent weeks, some of which have been claimed by the Sunni Muslim militants of Islamic State.

One Taliban official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said at least 28 people had been killed and dozens more wounded in Friday’s blast.

The attacks have underscored security challenges for the Taliban, which took over the country in August and have since carried out operations against Islamic State cells in Kabul.

“This afternoon, an explosion took place in a mosque of our Shiite compatriots … as a result of which a number of our compatriots were martyred and wounded,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Twitter.

No group immediately claimed responsibility but special forces have arrived at the scene and are investigating the incident.

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
