Three British Men Held Captive By Taliban In Afghanistan

The Taliban have imprisoned three British men in Afghanistan.

The Presidium Network, a nonprofit organization, is helping two of the men—charity doctor Kevin Cornwell and a second unidentified individual.

The third man is Miles Routledge, a British tourist who traveled to Afghanistan despite the Taliban’s gains in the country in August 2021. Presidium has confirmed that Routledge is the third man.

On January 11, the Taliban’s secret police detained the two men Presidium was helping.

How long Mr. Routledge has been detained is unknown.

First speaking with the Mail on Sunday, Scott Richards, co-founder of the Presidium Network, said to the PA news agency on Saturday: “I am told that those folks are in good condition and being treated nicely.

“I have no reason to think they have received any unfair treatment at all,” the speaker said.

According to Mr. Richards, the individuals are being detained in a facility for foreigners run by the general directorate of intelligence.

He stated that the males have not been in contact.

“We are working hard to secure consular contact with British people held in Afghanistan and we are supporting families,” a Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) official said.

The FCDO still advises against visiting Afghanistan due to the security dangers, which include the possibility of being detained.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
