Nollywood Actor; Chiwetalu Agu Speaks On His Arrest By Soldiers

Veteran Nollywood actor; Chinwetalu Agu, has denied claims that he was campaigning for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Earlier on Thursday it was reported that the veteran actor was arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State, for wearing an outfit with colours of the Biafran flag. Videos of the arrest of the veteran Nollywood actor started trending on social media amid wide condemnation of the military.

The Nigerian Army, while reacting to the incident via a statement by its spokesman; Onyema Nwachukwu, on Thursday evening, said Agu was arrested while inciting people.

However, Agu, while speaking on his arrest by the soldiers, stressed that the outfit that he wore did not show that he was promoting the cause of IPOB or ESN.

Pointing to his outfit, the actor said, “I can wear this.

“This is rising sun, not Biafran, not Eastern Security Network, Do you understand? With my education, I know areas to go and areas not to go. It’s better for you to be videoing all this. Let’s listen to the facts and know how to react to the facts. This is a civil dress!

“I was buying bread, ten thousand naira worth of bread! And sharing it one by one, no campaign, no nothing, when they came, nobody was doing demonstration or carrying placard. People who were hungry, I was giving them bread. Is it wrong to feed people?”

Recalls that the Nigerian Army, while reacting to the incident via a statement by its spokesman; Onyema Nwachukwu, denied reports that the popular actor was assaulted, noting that Agu was only detained.

“It is important to once again place on record that the allegation that he was brutalised is false and should be disregarded accordingly,” the army had stated.
