Tragedy struck in the Pipeline area of Rumukwurushi, Obio/Akpor LGA, Rivers State* after a man identified as Seth allegedly macheted his father to death.
Rivers Police Command has arrested the suspect and is investigating the motive.
Neighbours said the deceased had confronted his son several times over his alleged consumption of hard liquor known as Ice, a habit that often made him violent.
On the day of the incident, the suspect’s mother – a teacher – had gone to work.
A neighbour told us:
“When she returned from work and saw the house scattered, from the veranda to the room, she asked the boy what happened. She saw her husband lying down, thought he was sleeping. Because of the state of the house, she went outside and called people to check on him.”
“The person who came said the man was dead, but she did not see any blood at first. As she tried to go back inside, the boy locked the door where his father was and remained inside. The woman started shouting.”
Vigilantes and police forced the door open. The boy was seen with *bloodstains on his hands* and allegedly confessed.
It was gathered that the suspect attacked his father with a machete, inflicting multiple cuts, including on the neck.
Another source said the quarrel may have been over food: “Maybe he had a quarrel with his father over food or something else because the woman was rushing to prepare food for her husband that afternoon.”
A video now circulating shows the grieving mother narrating the incident to vigilante members.
Spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command, *SP Blessing Agabe, confirmed:
“Yes, I can confirm. The suspect in question has been arrested, while the investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
