“I Became Poorer In The Last 4 Years,” Seyi Makinde

Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo state, who was successfully re-elected in the March governorship election, claimed that he had been impoverished over the past four years.

In response to inquiries from the media, Makinde revealed this on Friday at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) headquarters in the Oyo State.

He did so shortly after turning in his asset declaration form at his end of tenure and obtaining a new one for a second term in office.

The governor of Oyo State said that due to his inability to manage and concentrate on his own enterprises while leading Oyo State, he lost around 12 per cent of the assets he disclosed in 2019. He further stated that he has no regrets about serving the state’s citizens.

Makinde said: “Statutorily, you have to declare your asset on the assumption of office and end of tenure. Since one tenure is ending, and by law, I have to do the declaration of assets before assuming office for the next tenure.

“So, I came in here to submit my end-of-tenure form for the end of tenure for the first term, asset declaration and also to declare my asset at the beginning of the second tenure.

“I believe that you are all aware of my declaration for the first tenure. I can tell you that in four years, I am poorer. I am serious because I have not really had the time to look after my business, I have been looking after Oyo State business and I am not surprised that there were losses a bit here and there, but I am still okay.

“It’s actually about 10 to 12 per cent poorer. The details of the loss will be made available to the public in due course.”

Seyi Makinde disclosed assets totalling N50 billion in 2019. His asset disclosure form at the time was stamped OYSE/2019/001.
