I Don’t Know How I Got Pregnant Without S*x — Woman Tells Court

Taibat Abubakar, a divorced applicant, stated at a magistrates’ court in Ipata, Ilorin, Kwara State, that she is unable to explain how she became pregnant without having s*x with her husband, Mr. Abubakar Salihu.

She said, “He said I should marry him but I said no because I don’t love him. But he insisted and said whether I liked it or not I didn’t have a choice over his proposal.

“Then suddenly he called me one day saying that I am pregnant for him and that I must not abort it. Though surprised, I didn’t take it seriously until I didn’t see my period at the end of the month without having s*x with him. He paid my dowry and I have had a child for him, but I don’t love him anymore.”

In addition to asking the court to order the estranged husband to pay the child’s school tuition, Taibat, who requested that the marriage be dissolved, wanted N10,000 per month for the child’s nourishment.

Salihu refuted Taibat’s submissions, claiming that although she initially turned down his attempts, they eventually became friendly.

He declared, “We had physical s*x consciously and not in a dream or the spiritual realm as she has said.”

The pair was instructed to keep the status quo until the next adjourned date of July 25 by the magistrate, Ajibade Lawal.
