Immigration Rescues 10 Victims Of Human Trafficking In Jigawa

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Jigawa State Command, has rescued ten alleged victims of human trafficking in the state.

Mr Tahir Musa, the NIS Comptroller, stated during a news briefing in Dutse on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, that the victims were apprehended on Sunday in the Tsamiyar Kwance district of the Babura Local Government district.

Musa stated that the command’s Operation Salama squad intercepted the victims at 1:00 p.m. on their way to the Niger Republic via Europe.

He explained that the victims, who ranged in age from 21 to 30, consisted of two men and eight women.

According to the comptroller, six of the victims are from Ogun, two from Ondo State, one from Oyo State, and one from Imo.

“Upon their interception at Tsamiyar Kwance and subsequent profiling and interrogation, they confessed to us that they were moved from different locations to Kano state, then to Babura on their way to Niger Republic en route Tripoli in Libya,” the comptroller said.

He stated that the suspected fatalities were from Libya attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.

Musa recommended parents to guide their children in order to keep them from being duped by individuals who make false promises of a better life overseas.

According to him, the NIS Comptroller-General, Mrs Kemi Nandap, has tasked the command to eliminate or reduce irregular migration in the state through her pragmatic leadership and the cooperation of the Jigawa administration.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the victims were later handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Human Trafficking (NAPTIP) for further action.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
