The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has successfully taken full custody of fugitive suspect.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the suspect was handed over by the Ghana Police Service in Accra following a coordinated multi-agency operation.
The suspect had fled Nigeria after the alleged abduction and suspected murder of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her young daughter in Osun State.
Acting on credible intelligence that the suspect was hiding in Ghana, the Ghana Police Service effected his arrest and immediately informed the Nigeria Police Force. In response, Interpol NCB Abuja promptly mobilised to Accra to facilitate the handover.
Commenting on the operation, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun,
expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured that the investigation would be thorough and carried to a logical conclusion.
He added that the suspect would be arraigned in accordance with the law.
The IGP also commended the Ghana Police Service for their professionalism, cooperation, and swift action in the arrest and handover.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting the lives of all citizens and bringing offenders to justice, regardless of geographical boundaries.
The Force further emphasised its determination to strengthen international collaboration in the fight against transnational crime, underscoring the importance of cross-border intelligence and cooperation.
