Just In: Kano TikToker, Murja Kunya Remanded In Police Custody

Murja Ibrahim Kunya, a well-known Tiktoker, has been remanded to a correctional facility by a Kano State Sharia court in Filin Hoki, Kano, after it was claimed that she had threatened users on Tiktok and violated Islamic law.

Murja came before the Abdullahi Halliru-presiding court on two counts relating to making threats against specific individuals and publishing inciting videos that are against Islamic law and teachings and could mislead others.

As you may recall, the police arrested the Tiktoker in response to a complaint from the Council of Ulama.

However, she pleaded not guilty to the accusations made against her when she was brought before the court.

The judge ordered the offender to be kept in a correctional facility and postponed the case to February 16th, 2023, for the continuation of the hearing.

In the meantime, counsel for Kunya, Barrister Yasir Musa, requested that the court place Kunya in police or Hisbah custody rather than a correctional facility; however, this request was denied by counsel to the defendants, Barrister Lamido ABBA Soron Dinki.
