Kano Task Force Seizes ₦1.5bn Worth of Illicit, Expired Drugs

The Kano State Government Task Force Committee on Motor Parks and Other Public Places has seized illicit, expired, and counterfeit drugs valued at over ₦1.5 billion from the Kanawa Pharmaceutical Coordinated Wholesale Centre in Dan-Gwauro, Kumbotso Local Government Area. The operation was carried out following a formal notification from market leadership and intelligence reports about additional illicit stock within the market.

The seized drugs, including Hyxul, Benzhexol Hydrochloride, Cinbul, Levofloxacin, Cikatetem, Betaclox, and Augmentin, will be handed over to the state government for proper destruction. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been informed and is monitoring developments.

The Task Force Chairman, retired Major Adamu Abubakar Usman, described the seizure as significant, noting that the confiscated drugs filled an entire trailer. He credited the success to credible intelligence and cooperation from market leaders, urging traders to assist authorities in providing information on illegal drug activities.
