According to the governor, the unveiling of the insignia is important since it expresses the state’s gratitude to the military forces for their sacrifices.

He added that it is also a time to reflect on the country’s desired unity and security, as well as the issues that the country’s security agencies face.

“It is saddening to see security personnels, after giving their all in the service of the country retire into a life of poverty, advocating for improved welfare for members of the security forces.

“In Kogi, we appreciate the efforts of these fallen heroes and are committed to ensuring that their families are not just left alone to suffer,” the Governor stated.

Retired Navy Commander Jerry Omodara, the Governor’s State Security Adviser, said the state’s current peace and security was a direct result of the security services’ sacrifices and dedicated duty.

The Bello-led administration, according to Omodara, is doing a lot to improve the standard of living for families of retired and deceased policemen.

Omodara said, “besides the empowerment of three widows each in the 21 local governments of the state and payment of medical bills of its sick members, through the support of the state government.

“The legion now has a functional secretariat in Lokoja, the state capital”.

Warrant Officer David Salawu, a civil war veteran and the state’s Chairman of the Legion, praised Gov. Bello for his concern for legion members.
