Kylian Mbappe Willing To Bench An Entire Season At PSG

Kylian Mbappe, the star player for Paris Saint-Germain, is reportedly willing to sit out the entire 2023–24 season after being left off the team for PSG’s preseason tour of Japan and South Korea.

The French striker is currently under contract with the French powerhouses through the summer of 2024, but he has declined to sign a contract extension in Paris due to rumors that Real Madrid was interested in signing him.

Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports reports that PSG believes Mbappé has already consented to join Real Madrid for free when his contract expires the next summer, which the club regards as a “huge betrayal” as Mbappé had previously stated he wouldn’t move for free.

Due to this, PSG’s owners are now insisting that he must be transferred if he does not agree to extend his contract with the Ligue 1 champions.

This week, The Athletic reported that PSG would consider bids that were significantly less than the £155 million they shelled out to get Kylian Mbappe from Monaco in 2017.

It would be ‘impossible’ for Mbappe to go for free, according to PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

He said: “We want him to stay but he can’t leave for free. There was a verbal agreement and he had discussed it in an interview. And I was really shocked to learn that he had decided to leave for free.

“It’s very disappointing because Mbappe is a fantastic boy, a real gentleman and to leave for free, weakening the biggest club in France, it’s not him. When I heard the news, I was shocked and disappointed.

“It’s for him to decide for himself next week, or at most in the next two weeks. And if he does not want to sign a new contract, the door is open.

“It’s like that for him and everyone else. Nobody is bigger than the club, no player, not even me. It’s very clear.”
