Lagos To Shut Independence Marina-CMS Bridge For Two Months

The Lagos State Government has declared that the Independence/Mekwen Bridge (inbound Marina/CMS route) will be temporarily shut down for urgent repairs, spanning a period of two months, commencing on Wednesday, March 19, and concluding on Monday, May 26, 2025.

In a statement released on Sunday, March 16, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, provided specifics about the closure. He explained that during the maintenance work, the stretch of the road from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) through Bonny Camp Bridge to Independence Bridge will be inaccessible to vehicles.

Furthermore, the Bonny Camp Underpass Bridge service lane leading toward Independence Bridge will be closed to drivers. Nevertheless, the service lane running from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe will continue to be available for traffic.

Drivers traveling to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way are encouraged to take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, move toward Falomo Roundabout, and then connect to Obafemi Awolowo Road to reach Ring Road. For those heading to 3rd Mainland Bridge, the advised path is via Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road, and then Ring Road.

Motorists aiming for Inner Marina and CMS will similarly be redirected to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, with links to Falomo Roundabout, Obafemi Awolowo Road, and J.K. Randle Road/King George V Road.

The commissioner promised Lagos residents that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be diligently overseeing traffic movement along the impacted routes for the entire period of the repairs.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
