Lauren James Is Banned For Two Games After Red Card

Lauren James of England has been banned for two games after receiving a red card for stamping on Michelle Alozie of the Super Falcons during England’s win over Nigeria.

During the Lionesses’ last-16 match against Nigeria, James was sent off for trampling on the back of Michelle Alozie.

The referee initially showed the 21-year-old, England’s player of the tournament, a yellow card, but VAR called for a review and the yellow card was increased to a red card.

After receiving a red card, James is immediately suspended for England’s next match, but her suspension was extended by two matches after being examined by a Fifa disciplinary panel.

The disciplinary committee of FIFA determined that James’ actions constituted ‘serious foul play’ rather than violent behavior, resulting in a two-game ban.

As a result of the decision, James, who has three goals in four games, will be eligible to play in the final or third/fourth place play-off if England advances to that stage of the competition.

An official FIFA statement read: “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed a two-match suspension on England’s player Lauren James following a violation of article 14 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code at the FIFA Women’s World Cup match England vs Nigeria.

“The suspension will be served for the FIFA Women’s World Cup™️ quarter-final and the next international fixture following that.”

James apologized to the FA for her actions, which led to her dismissal in the 87th minute of England’s victory over Nigeria.

“Lauren is really sorry for her actions which led to the red card and is full of remorse,” the FA said. “It is wholly out of character for her.

“We will be supporting Lauren throughout and will be putting forward representation on her behalf. We fully respect FIFA’s disciplinary process and will not be making any further comment until after any decision has been made.”

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
