Legendary Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Peter Rufai Passes On

Peter Rufai, the legendary goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, passed on today.

According to Radio Nigeria, the 61-year-old passed away early on July 3, 2025. Even though there are still little information about his death and no official family statement has been released, the former national team star’s unexpected demise has already shocked and saddened Nigeria’s sports community.

One of Nigeria’s most renowned football players and a legendary figure in African goalkeeping history, Peter Rufai is frequently referred to by supporters as “Dodo Mayana.”

He had a successful career playing for both home and foreign teams. After starting with Stationery Stores FC in Lagos, Rufai went on to play professionally around Europe, spending time with Go Ahead Eagles in Spain and the Netherlands.
