Makinde and Kwankwaso Hold Closed-Door Meeting in Ibadan Amidst 2027 Speculations

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The meeting, which is taking place at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, has sparked interest among political observers, with many speculating about the possible agenda.

Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, arrived at the meeting venue accompanied by a delegation that included NNPP chieftain Buba Galadima and other party stakeholders. The meeting is being held behind closed doors, with details of the discussion not being disclosed to the public.

While the specific agenda of the meeting remains unclear, observers believe it may be connected to preparations for the 2027 general elections, given Kwankwaso’s recent political activities and Makinde’s significant influence in national politics. Makinde, who is currently serving his second term as Oyo governor, is expected to complete his constitutionally allowed tenure in 2027, a timeline that has naturally positioned him in conversations about possible national political ambitions.

The meeting between Makinde and Kwankwaso comes amidst ongoing consultations and strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kwankwaso has been active in national political consultations following the 2023 elections, while Makinde continues to maintain significant influence within the PDP.

The closed-door meeting has sparked widespread speculation about possible alliances and coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
