Samuel Umeojili, 38, has been charged in an Ado-Ekiti magistrates’ court for allegedly smacking his wife into a coma.
The defendant, who lives at No. 2 Idolofin Street in Ado-Ekiti, is being prosecuted on two counts of assault and breach of peace.
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor, Insp Olasunkanmi Bamikole, had previously informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 15 at around 9:00 a.m. at No. 2, Idolofin Street, Ado-Ekiti.
He said the defendant assaulted his wife, Okechukwu Umeojili, and battered her into a coma.
Bamikole further claimed that the defendant had disrupted the peace by using his wife as a punching bag.
According to him, the offences violate Sections 185 and 181 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court to defer the hearing so he could review the file and gather his witnesses.

Despite the fact that he had no lawyer to defend him, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, found that the offence was bailable under the law, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N25,000, with one surety in the same amount, and adjourned the case till February 29 for hearing.
