A man, named Sakiru Famuyiwa, has been arrested for snatching two children during a Good Friday service at the Celestial Church of Christ Ijeja in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
According to the DAILY POST, the man was apprehended on Friday after police officers at the Ibara police division got a distress call.
According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, an Ogun police spokesperson, while the Good Friday service was taking place, the culprit and another person, who is yet to be caught, “sneaked into the children’s section and “stole” two toddlers aged two and three.”
As they tried to escape with the children, the suspects were spotted by a diligent member of the church, according to Oyeyemi.
As a result of the member who observed them raising the alarm, the congregation chased them and caught one of them.
Following the emergency call, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, the DPO of the Ibara division, promptly mobilized his men and proceeded to the site, where the suspect was saved from the irate mob, who were about to kill him.
He further stated that the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the suspect to be transferred to the State CIID’s anti-kidnapping section for further investigation.
The Commissioner has also directed that the co-conspirator be tracked down and prosecuted.
