Man Arrested For Being In Possession Of Fake Naira Notes

On April 10, police officers from the Enugu State Command’s Abakaliki (AI) Road Police Division detained Mmaduabuchi Okonkwo, 24, of Mkpologu, Emene, at the Old IMT Bus Stop on Abakaliki Road in Enugu.

The suspect’s detention is related to his suspected possession and sale of fake Naira notes.

He was found in possession of a total of ₦40,000.00 in suspected counterfeited one thousand Naira notes.

According to early investigations, the suspect boarded a minibus from New Haven Junction to the Old IMT Bus Stop in Enugu and handed the driver one of the counterfeited bills.

However, the driver examined the currency and discovered that it was counterfeit, raising an alarm that led to the suspect’s arrest.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to paying ₦25,000.00 in genuine Naira notes to his cohort in exchange for counterfeited notes worth ₦50,000.00.

He admitted to spending ₦10,000.00 from the bogus money, with the remaining ₦40,000.00 confiscated from him.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed his detention and stated that the suspect will be charged and prosecuted once the inquiry was completed.
