Man Arrested For Raping His Girlfriend

A 19-year-old man named Auwal Abdullahi has been detained by members of the Adamawa State police command for allegedly raping Blessing, a 16-year-old girl who he claims to be his girlfriend.

Auwal, a tricycle driver, was reportedly detained by police on June 6. Although he acknowledged raping the girl, he argued that she was his girlfriend.

The suspect claimed to have fallen in love with Blessing around six months ago and to have even planned a wedding when recalling the encounter.

He claimed to have told his father about his intention to wed her and that he had been advised by his father to wait till he built a house.

He claimed to have first met her in the restaurant, where everything started, and that while he was eating, she took his phone, tapped his number, and saved it to her friend’s phone.

He claims that after that, the girl continued to call him on her friend’s phone until they ultimately made plans to meet at 9:30 p.m. He went on to say that after spending a few minutes with her, he urged her to go back home, but she refused and stated she would be heading somewhere else instead.

He added that after some time, he ultimately drove her to a hotel near the Nasarawo borehole, where they spent the night and had s*x.

‘’I left her in the hotel the following morning because she told me that she wouldn’t go out until 11:00 am. I was informed that she was chased out of the hotel and gang raped by some hoodlums,” he said.

Afolabi Babatola, the commissioner of police, has expressed worry over the despicable occurrence and promised to see to it that the suspect is brought to justice. Speaking through SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Command’s PRO, CP Babatola recommended parents to keep an eye on their children’s whereabouts, especially young girls, to prevent them from being more victims of such individuals.
