The incident took place on Sunday, June 29, when a 7-foot-long shark bit a teenage boy on the right arm, wrist, and leg. As onlookers hurried to assist the injured teen, one courageous person boldly charged at the predator and hit it, compelling the shark to swim away.
Video footage of the incident captures pandemonium at the beach as others swiftly pulled the bleeding victim onto the sand and utilized a surfboard as an impromptu stretcher. The teen was stabilized and airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
Emergency services dispatched a second helicopter to track down the shark, but the effort yielded no results. Authorities are continuing to vigilantly monitor the area.
The attack occurred just days after NSW Shark Smart had tagged and released a tiger shark at the same beach, prompting concerns about heightened shark activity in the region.
