Man Says Edo State Deputy Gov Stole His $250k Wristwatch

A Nigerian man has accused Phillip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo state, of ”taking” his Daytona Gold wristwatch.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, the man claims that prior to the general elections, he and others were ”abducted” by security personnel linked to the deputy governor, who took them to Benin City and ‘tried to forcefully plant a gun’ on them. He claimed they resisted, but amid the altercation, the security guards allegedly grabbed his diamond-studded Daytona Gold wristwatch and diamond ring.

He further said that after their capture, he wrote a statement in which he claimed that Phillip Shaibu’s orderlies stole his Daytona Gold wristwatch. His fingerprints were obtained, he claimed, but after a thorough examination, it was revealed that the gun was not his; unfortunately, his watch was never recovered.

According to the man, he attended the “Afenmai congress” in New Jersey, U.S., where he allegedly saw his stated wristwatch on Edo State deputy governor, Phillip Shaibu.

‘’To my dismay, this year, about some few weeks ago, I went to America. I was in New York and I got to hear that there was this Afenmai congress in New Jersey. To my surprise, I saw Phillip Shaibu with my Daytona wristwatch with my name on it. I wanted to embarrass him but I was asked to slow down and I should take the matter because it was outside the country and it would not be good for such a thing to happen.” he said.

He claimed he kept his cool while they were out of the country, but when he returned to Nigeria, he reported the incident to the police. He claimed that because the state police had not acted on his complaint, he was forced to go to the police headquarters in Abuja to file a petition.

He pledged to take his wristwatch from the deputy governor and humiliate him wherever he saw him.

The deputy governor has not yet responded to this claim.
