Man Secretly Records Police Officer Who Illegally Collected 20k Fine From Him(See Video)

The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation after a Twitter user, @OsasenagaEno uploaded a video of an officer quarrying him in Ikeja, Lagos state, for not possessing a tinted glass permit.

The officer could be seen in the man’s car as they both headed for the police station while quarreling on the matter.

According to the Twitter user, he was forced to pay N20,000 as a fee for not having the permit.

@OsasenagaEno said, “Just going to drop this here. Dude claimed the modus operandi of the @PoliceNG CRU @Nigeriapolice PR is to stop people without permits. Also refuses to use their seat belt.

“This guy claimed that the penalty for not having a permit was 100k and we needed to go to the station. Quoted imaginary sections of an Act to buttress his point. At the station in Ikeja they made me pay a fine of 20k without issuing a receipt.

“After supposed payment for the fine (without receipt) on driving out of the compound I was stopped again by 4 other officers, the first officer beckoned on them to let me go and joined me till I exited. Then all of a sudden shouted “I didn’t collect any money from you” and left.”

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the acting police spokesperson responded by saying that police officers should not require a tinted glass permit.

Adejobi claimed on Twitter that the tinted glasses permit has been suspended since June 2021, and he asked where officers expect Nigerians to obtain it. Officers that force Nigerians to show a permit are considered deviants, according to him.

An investigation has now been initiated, according to the Police Complaints Unit.
