Man Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Defiling 7-Year-Old

David Jackson, 72, a security guard, was sentenced to life in prison by the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja on Monday for defiling a 7-year-old girl, according to NAN.

Jackson was given a life sentence by Judge Abiola Soladoye, who found that the prosecution had established all three elements of defilement against the guilty party.

In rendering her decision, Soladoye stated that the victim had been abused since she was 7 years old at the time of the occurrence and had named Jackson, a gateman at one of the homes on her street, as her abuser.

“The testimony of the survivor was clear, consistent and coherent under cross-examination,” he said.

“The second prosecution witness was a teacher who identified that the survivor was her student.

“She testified that one of the survivor’s classmates had reported to her that the survivor was not feeling well and she was walking in a funny way.

“The teacher, in her evidence, said that she made an inquiry and discovered that the survivor was complaining of pains in her private part and that someone had sexually assaulted her,” the judge said.

In addition, Sholadoye maintained that the survivor’s father’s testimony was reliable and supported by the other two prosecution witnesses.

She stated that the prisoner’s attempts to refute the accusation were ineffective.

“The defendant is consequently found guilty as charged for defilement of a 7-year-old child contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015 and he is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment,” Soladoye said.

The judge further mandated that the convict’s name be entered into the Lagos State Government’s Sexual Offences Register.

The prisoner testified on his own behalf, and three witnesses were called by the state attorney, Ms. Abimbola Abolade.

During the trial, Abolade told the judge that the survivor’s brother had sent her on a mishappening day.

The prosecution stated that the conviction occurred on May 16, 2022, in Lagos, at Oyedele Close, Ojodu, and Berger.

The prosecution attorney claimed that when the young girl passed the resident the guard was watching over, he leapt in, covered the survivor’s mouth, and engaged in illegal sexual activity with her.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
