Manchester United Complete £62.5m Signing Of Matheus Cunha From Wolves

Manchester United have formally secured the transfer of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Brazilian striker has completed his £62.5m transfer from Wolves, pending visa and registration approval, with an official announcement made on Sunday afternoon.

Cunha, aged 28, successfully underwent his medical examination last week, marking United’s first bold move in what promises to be a significant summer as they aim to restructure under manager Ruben Amorim.

Cunha will be the first acquisition of the summer for Ruben Amorim, who is tasked with revitalizing a team that ended the Premier League season in 15th place.

During his time at Wolves, Cunha scored 33 goals in 92 matches, having first arrived on loan from Atletico Madrid in January 2023.

He signed a permanent contract with Wolves at the conclusion of that season for a fee of up to 40m euros (£35m).

A concise statement from Manchester United declared: ‘Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha.

‘The Brazilian forward’s signing is subject to visa and registration. The 26 year-old has 13 senior caps for Brazil, and, in his club career, has made 270 appearances and scored 72 goals in the English, Spanish, German and Swiss top flights.

‘During two-and-a-half seasons at Wolves, Cunha has scored 33 goals in 92 appearances.

‘Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford.’

It is understood that United will pay Wolves in three installments of £20.85m over two years, after the Molineux club declined a proposal to spread the payments over five years.

The Red Devils had already finalized personal terms with the Brazilian international, and he may now inherit the No 10 shirt previously worn by Marcus Rashford.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
