Manchester United Set To Axe Up To 200 Jobs After Final Defeat

Manchester United are preparing to notify 200 staff members about whether they will lose their jobs after the team’s damaging 1 – 0 defeat to Spurs in Wednesday’s Europa League final.

Approximately 200 employees face the possibility of redundancy and will learn their fate this week, according to reports from ‘The Daily Mail’ and ‘The Telegraph’.

The club has already taken measures in recent years to scale back its scouting operations, but the current global network of 80 scouts will face further reductions.

It was revealed earlier this month that Marie Marron, a long-serving employee at United, was informed she was at risk of redundancy. Marron has been with United for 47 years, initially working as personal assistant to the then club secretary, Ken Merrett, before becoming a pivotal figure in first-team logistics and a key liaison with UEFA, the Premier League, and the Football Association.

The club’s financial situation was already under close examination before the final, as co-owner Jim Ratcliffe has enforced significant cost-cutting measures since acquiring a minority stake just over a year ago. Ratcliffe claimed in March that Man United would have “run out of money at Christmas” without those measures.

The failure to secure qualification for the Champions League, combined with United’s poor performance in the Premier League, is expected to result in a financial loss exceeding £150 million from prize money, broadcast revenue, gate receipts, and penalty payments.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
