It has been reported that Matt Hancock received £45,000 (€52,000) for his appearance on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
In an update to the MPs’ Register of Interests that was issued on Wednesday, the former UK health secretary disclosed the payment.
The entry also showed that he spent 80 hours recording the show between September 24 and October 8 while the UK Parliament was on break, just before flying to Australia to participate in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Although Mr. Hancock has not officially disclosed the compensation he received for his Sunday finale appearance on I’m A Celebrity, rumors say it was much higher. His choice to travel to Australia led to his losing the Conservative whip and jeopardizing his career as an MP. Appearances on the two programs have drawn controversy.
The Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (Acoba), which reviews former ministers’ appointments, also criticized him for not consulting it before making his TV appearances.
However, Lord Pickles, the chairman of Acoba, stated that taking any further action against him would be “disproportionate.”
It’s anticipated that his episode of Celebrity SAS will premiere in 2023.
