Mohbad: Naira Marley, Sam Larry Get N20m Bail

Naira Marley and Sam Larry have been granted bail after more than a month in police detention.

The pair are persons of interest in the death of Mohbad; the fast-rising singer who passed away on September 12.

Larry was arrested on September 29, while Marley was detained for interrogation on October 3.

On October 4, the Lagos police arraigned the pair before a magistrate’s court in Yaba. The law enforcement agency also requested that Marley and Larry be remanded for 30 days pending the completion of their investigation.

But in her judgment, Adeola Olatunbosun, the chief magistrate, held that the suspects be remanded for only 21 days.

However, the remand order expired on October 26.

Last week, Marley and Larry filed a fundamental rights suit challenging what they described as their “continued detention” in police custody.

The police and Olatunbosun were named as defendants in the lawsuit filed before the federal high court in Lagos.

Marley and Larry are each demanding N20m damages from the defendants.

On Wednesday, the magistrate’s court granted Marley and Larry bail in the sum of N20 million with three responsible duties.

The magistrate asked the defendants to submit their passports. Olatunbosun also directed that they make weekly appearances at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti.

She further cautioned the pair not to contact her directly on the case.
