More Problems For Detained Rapper Young Thug As More Gang Links Emerge

Six fresh charges have been filed against American rapper Young Thug on the basis of claims that he belonged to a criminal street gang.

Along with four other defendants, the 30-year-old artist is charged with conspiring to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (well known as RICO).

The information became public following the filing of an indictment in Fulton County Superior Court last week.

After being taken into custody in May at his home in Atlanta, the musician, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, is now facing a number of accusations.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, they include possession of a machine gun, drug charges, violating Georgia’s controlled substances act, and having a gun while committing a felony.

28 people were charged with 56 counts in the initial filing for allegedly committing crimes under the ‘Young Slime Life’ street gang.

One of the three founders of the Atlanta-based gang, which is allegedly affiliated with the Bloods gang, is said to be Young Thug.

The original indictment also included the rapper Gunna’s name. Gunna (real name Sergio Kitchens) was also accused of conspiring to violate the RICO law in records provided to EW by the Fulton County District Attorney’s office at the time.

Young Thug’s lawyer, Brian Steel, insisted in a statement that his client is innocent. “Mr. Williams has committed absolutely no crimes,” Steel said on Wednesday to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We cannot wait for a trial date.”

The rapper was refused bail and is currently behind bars with a new hearing planned for next week. The gang-related charge dates back to 2018, while the conspiracy charge has connections to events as far back as 2013, according to the Associated Press.
