Mother Dies On Plane In Front Of Her Children

Witnessing the sudden death of a loved one can be life-changing.

An unfortunate incident happened recently in a plane en route to the United Kingdom, a British mother died in front of her two young children while returning to Britain, in what the family described as an “unimaginable loss”.

Helen Rhodes, a mother of two and babysitter, was returning home with her family after a 15-year “adventure” living in Hong Kong.

A few hours into the flight, which is usually over 13 hours, Ms. Rhodes became unresponsive and despite efforts, she could not be revived and her death was confirmed in her sleep.

For the remaining eight hours of the flight, Ms. Rhodes’s children sat next to their mother in “breathless sleep” until they landed in Frankfurt, an online GoFund Me campaign by a family friend to support the family. written on.

“Although it was extremely painful for the family, they all had time to say what they had to say to him. Needless to mention, they are devastated,” the friend wrote.

When the family arrived in Frankfurt, according to protocol, Ms. Rhodes’s body remained in the German city, while her husband Simon and their two children Nathan and Emma returned to the UK.

Jayne JJ, who founded the online campaign, said: “Helen and her family spent more than 15 years living in Hong Kong to start a new chapter of living back home in the UK.

“Helen was excited and terrified by the move, but looked forward to seeing her family back home, as she had not seen her family or aging parents since the pandemic began. Sadly, she never got to see him again.”

He described Ms. Rhodes as “a unique gem”, who was “the glue that holds the family together”.

While living in the Tung Chung area of Hong Kong, Ms. Rhodes was known as “the pulse of her community” and was stopped on the street by everyone she knew.

Ms. JJ said she became an invaluable member of a local maternity group in the district and would be the members’ reference point for anything medical-related.

In a tribute at the end of the post, Ms. JJ said: “This fundraiser is to honor this lovely woman who was loved by so many, a dear friend who touched so many.

“We can only hope she knew how much she meant to us, and how her void could never be filled. How painful and real this loss is.

The grief we feel is paralyzing. Still, we feel fortunate to know him.”

Tung Chung resident Andrew Spears also paid tribute to Ms. Rhodes. Writing on Facebook, she said: “Sadly, Tung Chung’s own Helen Rhodes passed away on a flight back to the UK. She was with her husband Simon and two children.

“I knew Helen only at the ‘school gate’ level but she was the most caring, generous, and considerate person; also the most talkative! Tung Chung and the school pick-up wouldn’t be the same without you.”

May her soul rest In Peace, amen.
